Safa Mubarak, a seven-year-old Indian girl, was reportedly alone at her home in Sharjah when she died after falling from her family’s apartment on the third floor. The incident occurred on 24 August.
Safa was the only child of her parents, who both hail from Kasaragod district in Kerala. She was a grade 2 student at a school in Ajman.
Her uncle Mansoor Ali, who spoke to Gulf News, said that she was alone and asleep at her home when the incident happened. Her father, Mansoor, and his brother, Mubarak Ali, were downstairs. Her mother, Murshida Mubarak, had left for work.
According to Mansoor, Safa reportedly opened the sliding door of the window after she woke up to look for her father. He said that she may have accidentally fallen out after losing her balance.
Sharjah Police is currently investigating the incident, and the family is coordinating with local authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
The family had recently returned from Kerala, and Safa was one week away from joining her school when it reopens. "They [Safa’s parents] are devastated," Mansoor told the media. The family intends to lay Safa to rest in the UAE.
Sharjah police told Khaleej Times that the child’s body was transferred to the forensic laboratory to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police also said that they believe the incident was an accident and that there was no criminal act behind the death of the child.
In 2025, a two-year-old Indian girl, alongside her 33-year-old mother, fell from a 17th-floor apartment balcony in Sharjah. In 2022, a five-year-old Indian girl fell from a small window on the 9th floor of her family's apartment near the Al Bustan Centre, Dubai.
After similar incidents were reported over the past many years, UAE's Child safety specialists and Police have advise parents to use window guards, secure locks, and other protective measures in apartments located on upper floors where small children are present.
