Vijay's TVK dashes Palaniswami's alliance hopes, rules out AIADMK tie-up for Tamil Nadu polls

Dousing the alliance hopes of Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palanisami, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Sunday ruled out any alliance with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). A senior functionary of the party said it would form an alliance with those who accept Vijay as the chief minister candidate.

Dismissing rumours about TVK's alliance for the upcoming elections, TVK joint secretary, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, said that TVK leader Vijay has not spoken with Congress or any other political parties regarding alliance for the upcoming assembly polls in the state. On allying with the AIADMK, Kumar said there isn't even "1 per cent chance" for the party to ally with AIADMK, part of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu.

"Today, the DMK in power is our main political enemy. The BJP is our ideological enemy. There is not even a 1 per cent chance of forming an alliance with the ideological enemy, the BJP, or any party in alliance with that party. Our leader Vijay is the chief ministerial candidate. We welcome those who accept his leadership and join the alliance," Kumar said.

The TVK organised statewide protests condemning the special intensive revision of electoral rolls underway in Tamil Nadu. The TVK leader's statement comes as the AIADMK was hoping to strengthen its alliance in the state and win the 2026 assembly polls.

Soon after the tragic stampede during actor-politician Vijay's rally in Karur, Palaniswami and AIADMK leaders had given ample cover for Vijay and the TVK from criticisms, hoping for an alliance. The Opposition targeted the state government and said poor security arrangements led to the attack.
