Bihar has been painted saffron post the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 results yesterday, with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning a whopping 202 seats in the 243-member assembly and the opposition Mahagathbandhan managing a mere 35.
The winning alliance claims that the massive victory reaffirms Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's appeal. The scale of the victory can be gauged by the fact that BJP and JD(U) had a strike rate of over 85 per cent in 101 seats each they contested.
While the BJP won 89 seats – it won 74 in 2020 – Nitish's Janata Dal (U) clinched 85 constituencies, up from 43 last time.
On the other hand, the Congress could manage wins in only six of the 61 seats it contested this time. In 2020, it won 19 seats. Its ally, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), too slipped to 25 from 75 in last election.
