The Union cabinet on Wednesday condemned the tragic Delhi Red Fort Metro blast and said the probe would be pursued with utmost urgency to bring perpetrators to justice. As many as 12 people died and over 20 people suffered injuries in the deadly blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened the cabinet meeting at his official residence in the backdrop of the terror strike in the national capital. The cabinet expressed "profound grief" over the loss of lives in the terrorist attack and observed two minutes' silence in honour of the victims.
In a strong-worded resolution, the cabinet observed the nation witnessed a heinous terror incident, perpetrated by anti-national forces. The cabinet appreciated medical personnel and emergency responders for their response in the aftermath of the attacks.
"The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives. The Cabinet reiterates India's unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," it read.
Appreciating the coordinated efforts of the security forces, "the Cabinet directs that the investigation into the incident be pursued with the utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay. The situation continues to be closely monitored at the highest levels of the government," it said.
The resolution reaffirmed the government's commitment to "safeguard the lives and well-being of all Indians.

Earlier in the day, Modi visited the victims of the blast in the hospital and inquired about their well-being.
A slow-moving car burst into flames near the busy Red Fort signal in the national capital on Monday evening, claiming the lives of 12 people. The blast occurred hours after security forces uncovered a "white-collar terror module" involving doctors with links in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Faridabad. Investigators have so far arrested eight people, including three doctors, in the case.
