Delhi Police and the central intelligence agencies are probing a terror angle to the car explosion outside the Red Fort after registering a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The case may get transferred to the National Investigation Agency soon.
Sources said initial leads have been traced to the Faridabad terror module, which was recently busted by the Jammu and Kashmir police with the arrest of eight people linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad.
The investigation has also brought to light the role of one of the accused, Dr Umar Mohammad, who had been untraceable since police conducted massive raids in Faridabad.
Nearly 2,900kg of explosives (ammonium nitrate) had been seized in the raids jointly carried out by the J&K Police and the Faridabad Police.

Security agencies are probing the involvement of Jaish-e-Mohammad in the terror attack, as well as the suspected linkages of Umar with the car carrying the explosives.
Sources said the car originally belonged to one Salman, who sold it to one Devender in March. The vehicle was later sold to one Aamir in October, before it landed with Umar. One Tariq was also involved in the exchanges, said sources.

Both Aamir and Tariq are now being questioned by the sleuths, who are also probing whether Umar tried to avoid getting identified and moved towards the Red Fort when the blast happened.
