Amid speculations regarding a terror angle in the Delhi Red Fort blast on Monday evening, reports have it that the blast could have been caused by Dr Mohammed Umar, a key member of the Faridabad-based terror module. The Haryana Police and their Jammu and Kashmir counterparts had busted the Faridabad module on Monday morning and arrested several suspects, including Dr Muzammil Ganaie, from Faridabad's Dhauj area.
Reports quoting a senior official told The Print that the car’s current owner was Dr Umar, who hailed from Pulwama. “He is from the same terror module. He panicked after the arrests. He, along with his associates, placed a detonator and carried out this terror act,” the officer added.
Though there is no confirmation from official sources that Dr Umar was the one who drove the i20 that caused the blast near the traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station, the CCTV footage has shown the vehicle inside a parking lot with he suspected suicide bomber on it. However, the driver continued to remain inside the vehicle and did not get out even for a second. It is suspected that he was either waiting for someone or awaiting instructions.
On Monday’s raid, the police had also arrested Dr Shaheeh, a woman doctor, along with Dr Muzammil Ganaie. Dr Shaheen was brought by air to Srinagar for custodial interrogation, officials said.
The police also seized 2,900 kg of explosives from the terror module.
An investigation is on whether or not the explosive used was ammonium nitrate. If confirmed, this could also link the blast to the Faridabad module. As per reports, there is no smell of RDX at the spot.
