Bihar polls: Modi slams Mahagathbandhan as 'Lathbandhan' after Opposition names Tejashwi Yadav as CM face

PM Narendra Modi launches a scathing attack on Bihar's Opposition Mahagathbandhan. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was announced as its CM candidate for the upcoming Bihar polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Coming down heavily on the Opposition's Mahagathbandhan in Bihar,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi said people in Bihar will never forget the "jungle raj" under the RJD regime in the state for 100 years. Modi's attack comes on a day when the Opposition announced  Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial face.

In an audio message to party cadres, Modi dubbed RJD's Mahagathbandhan as 'Lathbandhan', a 'coalition of criminals'. Modi said leaders of Mahagathbandhan are "out on bail". Saying the upcoming Bihar assembly election is about writing a new chapter in the history of the state, he added that youngsters will play a key role in it.

Targeting the RJD, Modi said there has been rapid development in the state ever since the NDA came to power and "the improvement in electricity won't please those with lanterns."

Modi asked party workers to ensure that elderly people educate youngsters about the atrocities during the "jungle raj". "I would tell all the youngsters in Bihar to gather all the young people at every booth and have the elderly people in that area come and tell everyone about the old stories from the jungle raj," he said.

The prime minister charged that the Opposition took the help of Maoists for its electoral victories.  Naxalism and Maoist terror played a huge role in the destruction of Bihar. This Maoist terror did not allow schools, colleges, or hospitals to open, and instead destroyed the already built ones.

Bihar will go to polls in two phases, on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will be taken up on November 14.
