As Anti-graft ombudsman Lokpal has floated a tender to procure seven luxurious BMW cars, collectively worth around Rs 5 crore, Anna Hazare, who led the anti-corruption movement in 2011 and demanded the creation of an independent ombudsman (Lokpal), has been at the receiving end of social media trolls. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask where Hazare is now.
The X handle of the Congress in Kerala pointed out that "Lokpal, once projected as the ultimate anti-corruption watchdog, is busy indulging in luxuries and remains a silent spectator to the large-scale corruption and plunder happening across the country....And Anna Hazare and team is dead silent."
A user observed that "There are two evils that Anna Hazare 's movement gifted to the country. @narendramodi government and a dysfunctional Lokpal."
"For this Lokpal institution Anna Hazare and company launched a big movement namely' India Against corruption', which paved the way for BJP coming to power," a user noted.
Another said: "Ironically this was the "solution" to India's corruption being peddled by the geniuses of the Anna Hazare movement."
"Perhaps Anna Hazare has been designated to ensure that Lok Pal's work is over and remains shut down 24x7," wrote a user.
A user said "BJP Agent Anna Hazare is sleeping since 2014."
Another asked: "How many cars for Anna Hazare??.. Is he still alive??"
