A Bengaluru-based doctor was nabbed for allegedly killing his wife, a dermatologist, by administering an overdose of an anaesthetic drug.

The accused, 31-year-old Dr Mahendra Reddy G S, in the pretext of treating the victim, 28-year-old Dr Kruthika M Reddy's gastric issues, injected an overdose of an anaesthetic drug, which eventually turned fatal for her.

Six months after her death, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) submitted a detailed report, which exposed the overdose of the drug that led to the arrest of the culprit.

"Bengaluru police have arrested a government hospital doctor in connection with the murder of his wife, a lady doctor, whose suspicious death in April 2025 was initially reported as an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) at Marathahalli Police Station," said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.

The complaint was registered by the victim's father, Muni Reddy. The doctor couple worked in Bengaluru's Victoria Government Hospital.

Muni Reddy stated in his complaint that his daughter, a doctor with an MD degree, was married to Mahendra Reddy, also a doctor, on May 26, 2024.

The complainant alleged that after marriage, Mahendra began showing neglect towards Kruthika, complaining that she sought her father's consent for even minor household decisions and made her bear personal expenses. The accused allegedly pressured her family to finance the construction of a hospital, but instead, Muni Reddy said he set up a clinic named Skin & Scalpel for the couple's medical practice, PTI reported.

TOI reported that the accused was disturbed after discovering Kritika's health issues and was furious for hiding the truth about her medical condition
