Premanand Maharaj, the renowned saint of Vrindavan, has sparked health concerns after he called off his regular padayatra. The saint, who is a spiritual guide to people like cricketer Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma, is reportedly suffering from a kidney ailment.

Premanand Maharaj’s alleged health issue became the talk of the town after the Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj issued a statement on Saturday asking devotees not to line up on the padayatra route for Maharaj ji’s darshan. Soon, a video went viral on social media showing the saint looking unwell during a sermon. He is seen with swollen eyes and a puffy face. The Vrindavan saint’s voice appeared trembling as he continued to preach to devotees.

Soon, another video showed him lying on a bed with bandages around his hands. This sparked rumours that he was hospitalised. There was also a chatter that he discontinued his padayatra due to health reasons.

However, the Shri Keli Kunj Ashram later clarified that the saint has been undergoing daily dialysis and is recovering at the Ashram. “Maharaj ji is healthy and continues his teachings at Kelly Kunj Ashram. Only the 4am hike has been temporarily paused, while his discourses and philosophy sessions continue,” a statement supposedly from the Ashram said.

Sources close to the Ashram said Maharaj’s condition has stabilised compared to earlier this week. In a video shared by one of his disciples, Premanand Maharaj can be heard saying, “My eyes are opening now; until yesterday, it felt as though they were closed.”

Maharaj, a Rasik Saint from Vrindavan, is famous for his spiritual sermons wherein he guides people. Earlier, Virat Kohli and Anushka’s meeting with the saint had gone viral, showing the couple’s visit to the ashram after his announcement of his retirement from Test Cricket. In the video, Premanand Maharaj was seen asking Virat, "Prasanna ho? (Are you happy?)". To this, Virat replied, "Ji Guru Ji".

Maharaj ji was born in Kanpur as Anirudh Kumar Pandey and began his spiritual journey at the age of 13.
