Police are searching for a man who fled after stabbing his wife to death at a Bengaluru bus stand in front of her 12-year-old daughter.

According to the police, K Rekha, 32 and a mother of two and originally from Channarayapatna in Hassan, and the accused Lohitashwa, 35, were married around three months ago.

It was a second marriage for the both of them. The two had met through mutual friends and had known each other for over a year.

After the two moved to Bengaluru, Rekha had recommended Lohitashwa for a job at the call centre in Tavarekere, Magadi Road, where she worked. He was already working as a cab driver for the same office, according to a report by the TOI.

Lohitashwa, however, grew suspicious of Rekha and accused her of being in a relationship wth another man.

On Monday, he attacked her while she was waiting near a bus stop to cross the road with her daughter. Police said that Lohitashwa approached her and the two exchanged words before he stabbed her with a knife multiple times and fled the spot. Her daughter had tried to save her but in vain, and before bystanders could intervene, Rekha was already bleeding profusely.

Locals and police rushed her to a private hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries. Police said that she was stabbed at least 11 times.

Police said that the elder daughter is in shock and will receive counseling before her statement is taken as an eyewitness. The woman’s second daughter, who is 9 years old, lives with her grandparents in her hometown.

A case has been registered at the Kamashilpa police station, and the police are searching for the suspect who is still at large. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined to catch the suspect.
