Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that Naxalism has been eliminated from the Bokaro region in Jharkhand, with the killing of the outfit's key commander carrying a Rs 1 crore bounty on his head. Shah asserted that soon, Naxalism will be eradicated from the entire country.

Security forces, including personnel from Jharkhand police and Cobra Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, gunned down three Naxals during an anti-Naxal operation in the Pantitri forest area in Jharkhand during the early hours of Monday.

According to authorities, the Naxals, led by their commander Sahdev Soren, opened fire on security forces, leading to a fierce exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists. In the operation, security personnel killed Soren and two other Naxals--Raghunath Hembram alias Chanchal and Birsen Ganjhu alias Ramkhelawan--both with a reward on their heads.

According to security forces, Soren was a Central Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoists).

Security forces have recovered the bodies of slain Naxals, and the operation is continuing. Union Minister Shah said that with the killing of Soren and his accomplice, Naxalism has been eliminated from Bokaro, Jharkhand.

Calling the operation a major success, Shah said in a post on X, "Following this operation, Naxalism has been completely eradicated from the Bokaro region in northern Jharkhand. Soon, the entire country will be free from the problem of Naxalism."

The Union home ministry has intensified anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Home Minister Shah has vowed to eradicate Naxalism from the country by March 31, 2026.
