In a horrifying incident, a 14-year-old girl was raped inside the coach of a train parked at the shunting yard of the Maharajpur Railway Station in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district on Saturday. The accused has been identified as a 20-year-old man who is currently at large, the police said.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered an FIR and launched a manhunt to nab the accused, who was known to the victim.
Maharajpur Government Railway Police officer-in-charge, Kailash Kumar Mahato, told news agency PTI that the minor girl's brother-in-law has lodged a complaint. According to the family, the girl was sweeping the floor near his shop when the accused lured her away to an abandoned train wagon. He was previously known to the girl and reportedly promised to marry her in the future.
"The victim's family member alleged that the accused, who used to visit the girl's house, promised to marry her and called her to the Maharajpur Station for a talk. He took her inside a parked train coach in the shunting yard and raped her," a police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
The girl was sent for a medical examination at Sahibganj Sadar Hospital, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate.
"We are investigating the case and are carrying out raids to nab the accused, who is absconding," added the police official.
In an unrelated incident, a woman in her nineties was allegedly raped by four unidentified men in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, prompting the authorities to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to lead the probe.
The woman was staying alone in an agricultural field in her village, about 55 km from the district headquarters. The perpetrators used masks to remain unidentified.
