Evacuations and emergency protocols have been implemented in Kashmir after floodwater entered several areas in South Kashmir and Srinagar.
Six rescue centers have been set up for the displaced in Government High School (GHS) Wagoora, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Khandah, Sheikh-ul-Alam HS Wagoora, GHSS BK Pora, Islamic Public HS Kralpora, and Dar-ul-Fatah Dangerpora. Evacuation efforts are underway in Seerbagh and Sumerbugh, and residents have been urged to move to safer places until the water level recedes.
Contingents from SDRF, NDRF, the Revenue Department, and the police are carrying out relief and rescue operations.
The alert was issued after a review of the situation by Divisional Commissioner V. K. Birdhi and Chief Secretary Atul Duloo. Soon after the meeting, evacuation and precautionary measures were activated across the Valley.
Residents of flood-prone districts, including Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam, and low-lying areas of Srinagar, were urged to cooperate with the authorities, follow advisories, and move to safer places where possible.
The administration has activated more than 300 relief centers with food, drinking water, electricity, and medical supplies. Petrol, diesel, LPG, food grains, and medicines are readily available, and no shortages have been reported from anywhere. Emergency helplines have also been made active, while police and security agencies remain on alert

This follows the rising water levels in the Jhelum and its tributaries, as well as several streams in South Kashmir, including Anantnag, Kulgam, and Pulwama.
In Srinagar, a breach at Shalina, Zainpora, on the outskirts of the city near the new bypass connecting Srinagar with South Kashmir, prompted authorities to issue an evacuation alert for Budgam, Lasjan, Nowgam, Vyethpora, Padshahibagh, and Mehjoor Nagar. Residents were safely shifted to safer locations.
People have been advised to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas. Many have shifted their vehicles to safer locations to prevent damage. Inundation in parts of South and Central Kashmir has disrupted traffic. The Flood and Irrigation Department is constantly monitoring river levels and mobilising disaster response teams. Meanwhile, the Flood Control Department is working to plug vulnerable spots in Barzulla, Gandbal, and other parts of Srinagar. Breach points near the Bone and Joint Hospital were plugged with sandbags, with permanent measures being undertaken.
With rainfall easing, the water level in the Jhelum is expected to recede within a day.
