The recent arrest of four men in Delhi has exposed an alarming tactic of robbery in the national capital, where snatchers disguised as holy men or ‘babas’ are roaming around the city roads to carry out theft.
The Delhi Police have arrested four men for allegedly snatching a diamond ring from a woman in broad daylight in Moti Nagar. The cops said the accused had posed as spiritual men with ashes on their bodies.
Melted gold and 61 pieces of diamond have been recovered from the accused.
According to police, the incident took place on August 1 when the woman was travelling from Moti Nagar to Connaught Place in a Rapido taxi. When her vehicle halted at the Shadipur Flyover red light signal, three men aged between 20 and 25 approached her and begged for alms.
The woman gave them ₹200, but within moments, one of the accused snatched the diamond ring from her finger, and the gang made off from the scene.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the Moti Nagar Police formed a special team to investigate the case under Inspector Varun Dalal and ACP Vijay Singh. The probe team identified the suspects after closely examining the CCTV footage near the crime scene.
