A day after US President Donald Trump imposed 25 per cent tariff on India, Pakistani propaganda machinery began spreading rumours about "financial emergency" in the country. However, PIB has clarified that these claims are not true.
A Pakistani propaganda account under the handle @Middle_Eastern0 has claimed that India has declared financial emergency, alleging that there was a $60 billion market wipeout following tariff announcement by Trump.
However, the fact-check team at the PIB has pointed out that the claim is fake, adding that no financial emergency was declared. "Stay alert. Always rely on official sources for verified information!" stated PIB in a warning to social media users.
India on Thursday clapped back at Trump over his "dead economy" rhetoric, stating that India is the "fastest growing" economy and is set to become the third largest in the coming years. During his speech in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said global institutions and economists see India as a bright spot in the global economy.
The minister asserted that the government gives the utmost importance to the welfare of farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and all sections of industry, adding that India will take all necessary measures to protect its national interest.
Goyal's remarks came after Trump slammed India for its Russia ties, saying the two nations can take their "dead economies down together".
"I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World," Trump stated.
