The Mahagadhbandan, which consists of six opposition parties including Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal, have planned a meeting on April 17 to discuss the strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, tentatively slated to be held in October.
According to sources, the request had come from the Congress leadership to conduct a meeting of the Mahagadhbandan so that the alliance can have a clear roadmap ahead of the assembly elections. "There hasn't been any formal meeting between the alliance partners yet," a Congress leader said, adding, "therefore, this meeting is an important one in terms of the active trajectory the opposition bloc will have."
There will also be preliminary discussions on seat sharing, according to party insiders, to dispel the discord among the ticket aspirants from different parties in the opposition bloc.
Although the Congress has already announced that the party will solidly stand with the RJD, it has not yet declared a chief minister candidate. Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot in a press conference, said the CM face of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-Congress led alliance will be decided after winning the assembly election slated later in the year. However, sources suggest that the grand old party will declare the RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav as the CM face a few months before the elections.
If we declare Tejaswi Yadav as the CM face right now, a Congress leader said, "the motivation of our rank and file will go down, we are working to motivate our people and build our cadre as much as we can. Therefore we won't declare him the CM face for now."
Earlier, the Congress' Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru had told THE WEEK that the alliance will focus on the coordination of the six parties and try to decide the candidates on respective seats as soon as possible so that the bloc does not lag on the management front.
