It was Banchhada who brought his daughter Lalita to the Gandhi Sagar police station in Mandsaur after she appeared at him home recently. She has submitted her Aadhaar card to prove her identity.
Lalita told them that she left home on her own with a man named Shahrukh, who took her to Bhanpura in the same district.
He then allegedly sold the woman to a man who was also named Shahrukh for Rs 5 lakh. He brought her to Rajasthan's Kota, when she was forced to stay with him for 18 months. The woman then managed to escape from captivity. She said she could not contact her family members as she did not have access to a mobile phone.
Interestingly, one of the four men accused of "murdering" Lalita was also named Shahrukh. The other three were Imran, Sonu and Ejaz. With the woman returning alive, the accused have lodged a petition with a local court.
The woman will now undergo medical examination and a DNA test to ascertain her identity. Police will also record statements from the witnesses again.
