A legislator from Uttar Pradesh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that the state police is conspiring to kill him and the chief minister is being misguided by administrative officers.

Nand Kishor Gurjar, the MLA from Loni (Ghaziabad) on Friday addressed the media in a torn kurta- which he said was the result of a scuffle with the police personnel who intervened in a religious event.

On Thursday, a 'kalash yatra' was being taken out when the police intervened to stop a vehicle which blared religious songs. Gurjar, with a Ramcharitmanas on his head, pleaded with the police to let the vehicle proceed but this resulted in a scuffle. He then sat on the road in protest while his supporters shouted ‘Modi-Yogi zindabad’. When asked about the behaviour of the police, Gurjar said this was ‘Ram Rajya’. He also added that the event was carried out after getting permission from the concerned.

The MLA then addressed his supporters, challenging the chief secretary and the Commissioner that ‘if their mothers had fed them their milk’ then it would be his chest and their bullets at any place of their choice in Ghaziabad.

Gurjar said that despite receiving prior permission for the Ram Katha, the police misbehaved with the women carrying the kalash on their heads. He added that tantric rituals had been performed by the state’s chief secretary to control Yogi Adityanath "who was not like this"- by which he presumably meant that he was not one to stop religious programmes.

Gurjar also said that the people of UP were very sad at this state of affairs. He alleged that he had not been speaking of the way his workers were being treated by the police because the CM had asked him not to. Another accusation he levelled was that a female party worker had been assaulted. “Till when should I not speak?”, he asked.

Levelling serious charges against the police he said that Ghaziabad’s police commissioner was intoxicated at 5 pm every day. He also said that this was the state’s most corrupt government till date.

Ajay Singh, the ACP of Loni however said that neither had any permission been sought nor any given for the procession. The police intervention was because hundreds of people had gathered without any prior information. He has also said that necessary action shall be taken for the act.
