The investigation into the Vadodara accident case which killed a woman has revealed that the accused, 20-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasiya, had traces of drugs in his blood.
This was confirmed in a rapid test kit, which is not a piece of admissible evidence in a court of law, The Indian Express quoted sources. The Gujarat police have sent the blood samples of Chaurasiya and his co-passenger Praanshu Chauhan and a third person who was with them before the accident to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Only an FSL report can conclusively prove the presence of drugs.
As per experts, unlike alcohol, even a small trace of drugs can be detected via blood tests even after 24 hours. Chaurasia has claimed that he was not drunk during the accident.
Meanwhile, Chaurasiya's shouting of 'another round' has had many speculating that he was inspired by the Danish film 'Another Round'. Police have reportedly said that Chaurasiya had put up posters of the movie in his room.
The Oscar-winning film starring Mads Mikkelsen shows the thrills and dangers of binge drinking. The dark comedy follows a group of high school teachers in Copenhagen who partake in a binge-drinking experiment to test if their social and professional lives will benefit from intoxication.
Chaurasiya had also shouted 'Uncle', 'Om Namah Shivay' and a woman's name loudly after hitting three two-wheelers near Amarpali Complex. The accused, who originally hails from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, lives in a PG accommodation in Gujarat.
CCTV footage
CCTV footage has also emerged showing Chaurasiya going to a friend's house in Paras Society near Gadhera Market just before the accident. The video shows Chaurasiya riding a scooter with Suresh in a pillion. Chaurasiya is shown holding a bottle in his hand and taking a swig from it. It is unclear what was in the bottle.
