Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the Samajwadi Party (SP) to get its member who was full of praise for Aurangzeb to the state so that his government could take care of him.

The UP CM took no names but he may be referring to Abu Azmi who has been suspended till the end of the ongoing session of the Maharashtra assembly. Azmi, the state president of the SP is a native of Azamgarh in UP. His eulogising of the Mughal emperor has drawn sharp criticism elsewhere too with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde saying Azmi should be tried for treason.

Adityanath, who was addressing the Vidhan Parishad on Wednesday, said the party should issue a rebuttal for the remarks of its member and also expel him from the party. The house erupted in shouts of 'Shame, Shame' while a feeble protest went up from the SP members.

The CM advised the Opposition to read what Aurangzeb’s father Shah Jahan had written about him. Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son.

Adityanath said Shah Jahan had wished that an offspring like Aurangzeb not be born to anyone. In contrast, Hindus not only served their parents during their lives but also offered shradh to them after their demise, he said.

He further said no ‘sabhya’ (cultured) Muslim even named their son Aurangzeb for they knew that as a person’s name so would be his deeds.

Describing the erring MLA as ‘kambakht’ (wretched) he said the party should invite him to UP, a state that would not take long to deal with him appropriately. He used the word ‘upchar’ – treatment to describe what his government would do to one who praised Aurangzeb and loathed Chattrapati Shivaji. Such people, Adityanath said, had no right to live in the country.

He further criticised the SP for having moved very far away from the ideology of Ram Manohar Lohia for it now sided with those who wanted to maraude and destroy the country.
