Trouble mounts for the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra after the Opposition raised the 2016 case against BJP minister Jayakumar Gore related to him sending obscene pictures to a woman. The charges were raised by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who claimed a "Swargate-like incident" was committed by Gore.
Raut on Wednesday said that Gore molested a woman from the family of Hambirrao Mohite, a famed Maratha warrior. He said the victim will stage a protest in front of the Vidhan Sabha in the next few days. "This issue will have to be raised in the Legislative Assembly. Such ministers should be kicked out," Raut said.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar too has taken an aggressive stand in this matter. Social activist Anjali Damania too told reporters that she will approach the Governor seeking justice for the victim and dismissal of Gore from the cabinet.

Who is Jayakumar Gore?
Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore is an MLA from the Man-Khatav constituency in Satara district. He was a Congress MLA till 2019 after which he jumped ship to the BJP. Gore won in the 2019 and 2024 assembly elections.
The incident related to the case happened in 2016 when he was with Congress. A case was then registered against Gore for sending objectionable photos to a woman. After the woman filed a complaint, Gore approached the Satara District Court and the Mumbai High Court to avoid arrest. However, the court rejected his bail application. Gore was sent to jail for 10 days. Though the case was settled, the allegation is that he continues to harass the victim.
The victim sent a letter to the Governor in January alleging that her name and address were being made viral on many WhatsApp groups. She also began to receive letters about the case. This letter too was made viral on social media, she alleged.
Gore is yet to respond to the allegations.
