Pranay and his minor son were discharged from the hospital on Saturday. However, Prasun remained hospitalised. As part of their investigation into this mysterious murder case, the police are proceeding to take both brothers into custody.
The brothers, owners of a leather factory near their home, were known for their lavish lifestyle but had fallen into massive debt. Their once-thriving business, employing over 200 workers, had shrunk to about 40 employees. Their four-storey residence was mortgaged, and they struggled to pay factory salaries regularly.
After questioning both brothers, police uncovered multiple inconsistencies in their statements, particularly regarding the circumstances of their wives’ deaths and the extent of their financial debt.
The police suspect that Pranay suggested to his younger brother, Prasun, that the entire family take their own lives, believing they won't be able to repay the debts. They informed their wives about the plan on February 12, and the women, reportedly, agreed. The family consumed a poison-laced dessert on the night of February 17.
Apart from Prasun and Romi’s minor daughter, everyone else survived. Police suspect that Sudeshna and Romi were murdered on Tuesday. According to local media reports, Pranay has accused Prasun of killing Romi and Sudeshna. The police intend to question both brothers in custody to uncover the truth.
The autopsy report revealed that that Romi's wrists were cut and there were injury marks on her neck, indicating the use of a sharp weapon. Similarly, Sudeshna’s wrists were also cut, along with the veins in her hands. She also had a deep wound on her neck.
Investigators are also working to determine whether Pranay and Prasun, along with Pranay’s minor son, deliberately attempted to take their own lives by orchestrating a car crash or if it was an unintended accident.
