The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee's (JKPCC) 15-day campaign, which started on Thursday, to restore J&K’s statehood is being seen as a move to exert pressure on its indifferent allay, the National Conference (NC), while simultaneously cornering the BJP.
The campaign, titled "Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq" (our state our right) spearheaded by JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra from Udhampur, aims to galvanise support for the demand for the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.

By launching the campaign, the Congress has taken a lead in spreading the demand for the restoration of statehood.
The campaign marks a shift in the alliance dynamics, with Congress signalling its growing frustration with NC’s approach towards it.
The Congress's frustration stems from the feeling that the NC has not treated it fairly since the formation of the government on October 16, 2024.

The party believes that the NC has neglected it and has not pushed the BJP to restore statehood.
The grand old party had promised to restore the statehood if voted to power at the Centre.
The Congress is also upset with NC’s perceived inaction and reluctance to challenge the BJP on this front.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding EVMs, Delhi Assembly polls and the leadership of the INDIA bloc has also not gone down well with the Congress.
The Congress has been increasingly feeling sidelined by the NC, leading Congress leaders to question the purpose of supporting the alliance.
These developments have led to growing concerns within Congress that the NC is not fully committed to the shared political agenda. The Congress has decided to escalate its attacks not only on the BJP.
Congress’s campaign appears to be gaining momentum among the public, particularly in Jammu, where sentiments over the Dogra identity remain strong. By framing the statehood issue as not just a political demand but an emotional and historical one, Congress is tapping into a narrative that resonates with the people.
It remains to be seen whether this move will yield political gains, Congress is striving to establish itself as a significant player in the evolving political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
