EC prepones counting of votes of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim Assembly polls to June 2

No change in parliament election schedule in both states, says EC

The Election Commission of India has preponed dates of counting of votes for upcoming Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim as the term of current assemblies in both states would expire before June 4. Vote counting for Assembly polls will be conducted on June 2 in both states. However, there are no changes in the schedule for Lok Sabha polls in both states.

As per the earlier schedule, polling was scheduled on April 19 and counting on June 4 in both states. The Election Commission in a release said, “ECI is to conduct election to Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim before the cessation of their terms. The term of house of both the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim is due to expire on 02.06.2024.”

Commission said in view of the expiry of assembly terms in both states, counting of votes has been preponed to June 2. As per the existing schedule, the date of counting of votes in both states was June 4 and the date before the election has to be completed was June 6. According to the revised schedule, the counting and date before which the election shall be completed in both states is June 2.

The Commission said there are no changes in the schedule for parliament elections in both states.

As per the schedule for parliament polls, voting for two seats in Arunachal Pradesh and one in Sikkim will be held on April 19 and counting of votes on June 4.
