Five dead, several injured as bus catches fire after coming in contact with live wire in UP

At least five persons died and several others were injured after a bus, in which they were travelling, came in contact with a high-voltage wire and went up in flames in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district on Monday.

The bus, carrying around 30 members of a wedding party, was travelling from Mau to Mahahar temple in the Mardah police station area.

The district magistrate and other senior officials have reached the spot and rescue and relief operations are going on.

Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of each of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured persons.

"The loss of lives in an accident in Ghazipur district is extremely sad and heart wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured," he said in a post on X.
