ED summons Mahua Moitra in foreign exchange violation case

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in an alleged foreign exchange violation case.

The former MP has been asked to depose on February 19 at the central agency's office in Delhi.

The ED will record her statement under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Moitra, who was expelled from Lok Sabha in December, is already facing an investigation by the CBI on the reference from the Lokpal.

The TMC leader was disqualified as an MP following the recommendations of the parliaments ethics committee over the cash-for-query allegations against her raised by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

Dubey had accused Moitra of accepting gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in parliament targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,

He had also alleged that Moitra compromised the national security by sharing her Lok Sabha login credentials with Hiranandani.

Moitra, a staunch critic of the BJP government, has denied any wrongdoing and claimed she was being targeted as she had raised questions on the deals of the Adani Group.
