The Delhi government has extended the winter vacation till January 12 for students from nursery classes to class 5. The decision was taken considering the prevailing cold wave conditions.

Delhi Minister Atishi took to X to make the announcement. "Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5," her post read.

This comes a day after the Delhi Directorate of Education withdrew the initial order extending winter vacation in schools.

Triggering confusion, the Department of Education on Saturday night rescinded the earlier order extending the winter break until January 10 for all government-aided and unaided recognised private schools. It claimed that the decision would only be taken on January 8 morning and there was some error in the order. "The order extending winter break was incorrectly issued. The order has been withdrawn immediately. Decision on the same will be taken tomorrow morning," PTI quoted the official as saying.

However, Atishi's post cleared the air on the subject.

Meanwhile, Delhi continues to face 'extreme cold waves. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert due to dense fog, light rainfall and drop in temperature for the next few days.

However, things are poised to improve over the next few days. Weather experts predict an approaching western disturbance could bring light rain on Tuesday, improving the cold day conditions .

Fog in North states

Many North indian states witnessed thick blanket of fog covering them on Sunday morning with the IMD reporting "moderate fog in isolated pockets over West Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan and north Chhattisgarh."

The visibility has also been affected with it plunging to 25 metres in Jammu and Punjab's Patiala and Amritsar. The situation was similar in Haryana and Chandigarh too.
