The monsoon session of Maharashtra Assembly will begin on Monday with the NDA claiming that the government will not misuse its current position in the House after the induction of Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction into the ruling alliance.

The NCP rebel faction joined the government earlier this month with Pawar taking oath as the deputy chief minister while eight of his loyal MLAs were also inducted into the cabinet.

"We will answer all the questions which will come from opposition side in this monsoon session. We will solve Maharashtra people's problem,” said Pawar while addressing a joint press conference alongside Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Fadnavis said the government will not misuse its position in the assembly even as the induction of the NCP faction into the ruling alliance has reduced the strength of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.

“Maharashtra legislature monsoon session starts from tomorrow. We will discuss all the issues during the session. Even though our strength has increased we will make sure that we do not misuse it and address all the issues related to the welfare of the people that will be raised by the opposition,” he said.

Chief Minister Shinde said in a statement that the opposition should not only raise questions against the state government for the welfare of people, but also praise the government when it does something good.

"As always Opposition boycott Tea program of monsoon session. We will discuss all the issues during the session. More than 210 MLAs are with us (current government). Opposition must question us if we are doing wrong, questions must be raised for the welfare of the people. It is the duty of the opposition to praise the government when the government does something right," he said.

Spanning three weeks, from July 17 to August 4, the assembly session will take place at the Vidhan Bhavan Complex in Nariman Point, Mumbai.
