Delhi CM in his petition challenges imposition of Rs 25,000 fine on him

Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday moved the Gujarat High Court seeking a review of its order passed in March in a case regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree. The High Court had allowed a petition of the Gujarat University and quashed and set aside an order of the CIC that had directed the University to “search for information” regarding degrees of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The matter has been admitted in the court of Justice Biren Vaishnav. The next hearing in the case is expected to take place on June 30. Hearing the case, the High Court issued rule to the Gujarat University, Union of India, the CIC and also the then CIC professor Sridhar Acharyulu who had passed the order.

In the petition, Kejriwal noted that the degree is not available on Gujarat University’s website and a document referred as 'Office Register' is displayed on the website. Kejriwal stated that the 'OR' appears to be cryptic, without seals or signatures of the authority, and that the verification is “impossible”.

Kejriwal in his petition said that the display of the “degree” on the university’s website is taken as the preliminary and the main ground to seek review of the earlier order. He added there was no time to verify the oral submission in the matter by Tushar Mehta, who was representing the University.

Kejriwal also challenged the imposition of a fine of Rs 25,000 on him for persisting PM’s degree.
