Even as suspense continues on who will be the chief minister of Karnataka, the Congress on Wednesday hit out at the BJP's “fake news factory” on the government formation in the southern state. The party also warned its own leaders against making any public statements on the leadership crisis in Karnataka.
The grand old party stormed to power in Karnataka bagging 135 seats, but the leadership is still struggling to pick the chief minister due to the tug of war between former CM Siddaramaiah and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar.
“A section of our dear friends of the media have fallen victim to the ‘fake news factory’ of BJP on formation of next Congress Government in Karnataka,” Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, adding that the BJP is frustrated after being rejected by the voters of Karnataka.
Surjewala said nobody even whispered a word on the “high command culture” when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took 7-10 days in deciding the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Goa and many other states. “But the same forces and a select news outlets have objections to the process of dialogue, discussion, consensus adopted by Sh. Mallikarjun Kharge ji which is in true democratic traditions,” he alleged.
Surjewala, the general secretary in-charge for Karnataka, warned the party leaders from issuing any statement on the leadership crisis in Karnataka and said any out of turn remarks would be treated as indiscipline.
“Congress Party is committed to the welfare of every Kannadiga and will implement the 5 Congress Guarantees in the first meeting of the cabinet. A clean, honest and transparent Govt for Karnataka is our duty and we will give the State a new Govt within 48 to 72 hours. We will rebuild Brand Karnataka and transform the dreams of 6.5 Crore Kannadigas into reality,” he said.
