Security beefed up as twin blasts rock Jammu

As many as six civilians were injured in the blasts

Ahead of the Republic Day and the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu, six civilians were injured in twin blasts at Narwal area on Saturday.

The blasts that occurred near the bus station created panic and fear in the area.

The injured were rushed to the hospital for medical aid. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has announced Rs 50,000 for each injured in the blasts.

The incident happened at a time when Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra is going through Jammu attracting large crowds. The Yatra had entered Jammu and Kashmir at Lakhanpur in Kathua on January 19.

Amid tensions, security has been heightened in Jammu and high alert was sounded in the areas bordering Pakistan.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the blasts additional security personnel and checkpoints has been set up for smooth passage of the Yatra.

Today’s blasts, however, is a matter of concern for security forces in Jammu. After the incident, police personnel, bomb disposal squad and forensic experts reached the spot to collect evidence for investigations.

Police are verifying the nature of the blast and search operation has been initiated in the area. Also, special checkpoints have also been set up on different routes.
