A manager of Ellaquai Dehati bank was shot dead by militants in South Kashmir's Kulgam on Thursday. According to reports, the incident happened at the Arreh Mohanpura Branch in Kulgam. The manager was identified as Vijay Kumar of Rajasthan.

The incident sparked fear in the area, and security forces cordoned off the area to nab the attackers.

The attack came in the wake of killing of a teacher, Rajni Bala, by militants on Tuesday morning at Gopalpora in Shopian. She was a resident of Samba district in Jammu, and was posted working in Kashmir.

Her killing happened days after the murder of Rahul Bhat, a migrant Kashmiri Pandit employed under PM’s Relief and Rehabilitation Package, in Kashmir. He was shot dead at Tehsil office Chadoora in Budgam on May 12.

His killing was widely condemned by political leaders and civil society members .

Bala’s killing triggered protests at several places by migrant Kashmiri Pandits working under the PM Relief and Rehabilitation Package.

They took to streets and blocked the Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Indira Nagar near BB Cantt in Srinagar.

The protesters said they were being targeted in Kashmir and demanded relocation from Kashmir until the situation improved.

They said the government had failed to provide them security. The protesters also staged protests inside the camps at several locations where they had been provided accommodation, like Sheikhpora in Budgam.

The protester threatened that unless the government addressed their concern, they would migrate from Kashmir like in the 90s. The government reached out to the protesters. and announced that all their demands would be met by June 6.

Targeted killings of migrant Kashmiri Pandits and non-locals have emerged as a security threat in Kashmir. Observers opined that the attacks were a result of growing fears about demographic change in Kashmir due to the revocation of Article 370.
