AICC in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Chaudhary alleged that Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has been engaged in anti-party activities and urged party president Sonia Gandhit to seek an explanation from Sidhu.

In a letter dated April 23, Chaudhary said Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Brar aka Raja Warring had forwarded to him a note regarding the activities of Sidhu.

"Having been in charge of the party's affairs in Punjab from November until now, it has also been my observation that Shri Sidhu continuously criticised the functioning of the Congress government, terming it corrupt and hand in glove with the Shrimon Akali Dal," Chaudhary wrote.

"As the party was fighting the elections, it was inappropriate for Shri Sidhu to set such a precedent. In spite of my repeated advice to Shri Sidhu to avoid such activities, he continued to speak against the government relentlessly."

He said he is also forwarding the detailed note by Warring on Sidhu to the Congress chief.

"Sidhu cannot be allowed to portray himself above the party and to set an example for others to breach the party discipline. It is therefore recommended that an explanation must be sought from Sidhu why a disciplinary proceeding should not be initiated against."
