The Shiv Sena is intensifying its attacks on independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana and her husband, MLA Ravi Rana. Navneet and Ravi were arrested on April 23 over their plans to chant the Hanuman Chalisa outside the private residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Since Tuesday, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has been raising questions of financial connections between Navneet Rana and the late Yusuf Lakdawala. Yusuf Lakdawala was a builder and film financier who had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Lakdawala died in jail in September last year.

Raut shared a screenshot of a document, purportedly showing assets and liabilities of Navneet Rana. This included a loan of Rs 80 lakh from Yusuf Lakdawala. Lakdawala was accused of having links to the operations of don Dawood Ibrahim.

Raut had tweeted on Tuesday night questioning whether the Enforcement Directorate had investigated the matter. He declared the link between Navneet Rana and Lakdawala was a matter of national security.

Raut tweeted on Wednesday morning “Lakdawala was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case of ₹ 200 crores, he died in the lockup itself. Part of Yusuf's illegal earnings is still in Navneet Rana's account. So when will ED serve tea to Rana? Why is this D-gang being saved? Why is BJP silent?”

Republic TV reported on Wednesday the economic offences wing of the Mumbai Police could register a new case against Navneet Rana and her husband, related to her alleged links with Yusuf Lakdawala.
