Signs of dissension in the Congress and its various state units are continuing days after the party's humiliating loss in state polls.

Harish Rawat, the poll campaign chief for Uttarakhand, has been accused of selling party poll tickets and offering posts in a Congress government for money.

Rawat took to Twitter on Tuesday to defend himself. “Accusations of selling tickets and posts are very serious and if those are being made on a person who has been a chief minister, regional party chief, general secretary of the party and also a member of the Congress Working Committee…” Rawat was quoted as saying by NDTV.

He claimed the allegations against him were being spread by supporters of a person holding a “very important post”. Rawat wrote “I pray that the Congress expels me in light of this accusation” and even added “evil like Harish Rawat” should be burned during Holika Dahan, a ritual preceding Holi.

Rawat, a former chief minister, lost the recent assembly polls from Lalkuwa constituency to a BJP candidate by over 17,000 votes. On Sunday, he had expressed anguish at his inability to secure a win for the party in the polls.

“How much trust she (Sonia Gandhi) had in me. All the top leaders of Congress had so much trust in me. All of them expected me to bring the Congress back to power. There must have been some shortcoming on my part because of which I could not meet their expectations,” Rawat was quoted as saying in a Facebook post by Hindustan Times.
