Congress in-charge for Uttarakhand, Devendra Yadav, a day before the assembly election results are to be declared, claimed that people from BJP tried to approach his party's candidates.

While many exit polls have given either the BJP or the Congress a majority in Uttarakhand, several of them have predicted a close fight between the two, or possibly a hung assembly. The two parties are locked in straight contests in 40 to 45 seats, while the regional outfits make the fight triangular on 25-30 seats.

Yadav said it is important that his party stay alert, even as he clarified that he has full faith in Congress candidates and workers.

"Going by trends from the region and the fact that people from BJP tried to approach our candidates, it is important to keep ourselves alert. We are monitoring the situation," he said.

Though both the parties have exuded confidence of winning a clear majority, their leaders have held several closed-door meetings over the last few days to deal with different scenarios that they may confront after the poll results.

The Congress in Goa has already shifted all the candidates to a luxury resort in Bambolim village near Panaji ahead of the counting day, fearing a repeat of the 2017 fiasco when it had failed to form a government in the state despite scoring the maximum number of seats.
