TMC MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee will continue to be the national general secretary of the party. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the newly-formed national working committee of TMC on Friday, amid the internal rift in the party.

Chandrima Bhattacharjee, Subrata Bakshi, and Jaswant Sinha have been appointed as the vice presidents of the party. Aroop Biswas has been chosen as the treasurer, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy as the Rajya Sabha spokesperson and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as Lok Sabha spokesperson.

The meeting was held at Mamata Banerjee's residence.

The WB CM had recently dissolved the party's national office bearers' committee, which included her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and formed a 20-member working committee amid a growing rift between the party old timers who are her loyalists and supporters of her nephew.

The new TMC national working committee members included Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Bakshi, Sudip Bandopadhyay,  Anubrata Mondal, Aroop Biswas, Firhad Hakim and Yashwant Sinha, besides Abhishek Banerjee.
