Recently, there have been reports of rift between political strategist Prashant Kishor and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Some reports even stated that Mamata Banerjee has ended ties with Kishor and his Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC).

That, however, is not the case. The I-PAC and TMC are yet to part ways, despite differences. When asked about the reports, Kishor told THE WEEK, "(This is) media and unending speculations.” TMC workers have been protesting across the state against the candidates’ list released for civic body polls. Where does Kishor stand in this scenario? "Nowhere," said an I-PAC member.

It is the I-PAC that usually draws up lists and suggests to the top TMC brass. However, all suggestions are not necessarily taken up. Kishor is a player involved nationally in much bigger tasks.

The TMC's contract with Kishor is till 2024 Lok Sabha elections in which Mamata wants to position herself as a challenge to Modi. Since 2019, Kishore has not only been guiding Mamata politically but has also advised her on key administrative decisions. This had often invited the wrath of some IAS officers. "One officer in the CMO even declined to give I-PAC men details about files. He was transferred out the next day," said a senior IAS officer.

It is not known how much clout Kishor has with Mamata's administration post 2021, but one thing is clear: he is yet to call it a day with Mamata.
