The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Wednesday, promised to make Punjab drug addiction-free if voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections.

Bhagwant Mann, the party's chief ministerial candidate, said the party would give free hand to police to deal with drug menace if it forms government in the state. Mann also promised to set up a drug task force to ensure that the state is addiction-free. The task force will not face any political interference, Mann, an MP from Sangrur constituency, said.

Claiming that the Congress is dealing with internal squabbles and is not focusing on the issue of internal security in the border state, Mann said his party already has a roadmap for internal security.

The AAP leader had recently hit out at Navjot Singh Sidhu for questioning the survey launched by his party to pick the CM candidate, asking the Congress leader to get a survey done for picking it's CM face.

A few days ago, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced that Mann would be the party's CM face for the Punjab polls. On January 13, Kejriwal had asked the people of Punjab to suggest names of their preferred chief ministerial candidates and launched a mobile number for the purpose. The AAP reportedly received around 22 lakh responses.

Voting for Punjab's 117 assembly seats is scheduled for February 20 and the counting will take place on March 10.
