Reiterating his accusation that the BJP was using Hindutva as a tool to attain power, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that he still believes the Sena wasted 25 years in alliance with the saffron party.

Addressing Shiv Sainiks virtually on the 96th birth anniversary of the party founder and his father Bal Thackeray, Thackeray asserted that the Sena has left only the BJP and not Hindutva.

"I believe that BJP's opportunistic Hindutva is for power," he said.

The Sena fell out with BJP after the 2019 Maharashtra polls and tied up with NCP and Congress to form Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Thackeray had earlier said Hinduvta faced threat not from outsiders but from “neo Hindus” and “those who climbed the ladder of power” using the ideology.

He had said that the Sena needs to guard against such designs and work for the unity of Marathi people and Hindus.
