A woman intruder was killed by the Border Security Force in R.S. Pura area of Jammu on Sunday night. BSF spokesman S.P.S. Sandhu told THE WEEK that the woman from Pakistan was shot dead.

“The BSF troops noticed suspicious movement and warned the intruder many times not to cross the International Border, but the intruder kept running aggressively towards border fence,” said Sandhu.

He said the police have gone to the area to collect the body.

The BSF guards the International Border in Jammu while the Army takes care of the Line of Control in Jammu’s Rajouri and Poonch districts.

R.S. Pura is about 34km from Jammu and many villages like Arnia and Abdulliah lie very close to the IB.

The villages are in the direct line of fire of Pakistan Rangers, a paramilitary law enforcement organisation in the neighbouring country.

The part of the border that Jammu shares with Pakistan’s Punjab is referred to as the “Working Boundary” by Pakistan.

Before Partition, there was a rail service between Jammu and Pakistani Punjab. The train would halt at the BSF’s sprawling octroi post at R.S. Pura. From the Octroi Post, Sialkot is only 11km.

The route is used by the officials of the United Nations Military Observation Group (UNIMOG) in India and Pakistan to travel between Pakistan and Kashmir.
