In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old woman was beheaded by her 17-year-old brother who allegedly displayed her severed head to the neighbours in Aurangabad district on Sunday. The incident, a suspected case of honour killing, came to light as the accused surrendered to the police after killing his sister with help from their mother.

According to Vaijapur police, Kirti Mote and Avinash Thore had eloped in June. Her family was opposed to the marriage as Avinash belonged to a different community. She was pregnant and lived with her husband and in-laws. Her brother tried to kill Avinash also but he managed to escape.

The terrifying act, very similar to the one depicted in critically acclaimed Marathi film Sairaat, took place in Vaijapur taluk of Aurangabad district. Kirti's mother had called and told her she would be visiting her along with her brother. Kirti was working in the farm when her mother and brother arrived. She rushed to greet them, gave them water and went to her house to make tea. When she was making tea, her brother attacked her with a sickle while her mother tightly held her legs.

When Kirti shouted, her husband who was in the house, rushed to the kitchen and witnessed the gory murder. After severing Kirti's head, her brother allegedly picked it up, walked out and displayed it to neighbours. Then he surrendered to the police.
