Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasised his commitment to the redevelopment work at the religious sites at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.

Modi was speaking at Kedarnath after visiting the Kedarnath temple and inaugurating infrastructure projects valued at over Rs 400 crore. Modi was quoted by ANI as saying, "I have regularly reviewed redevelopment works at Kedarnath from Delhi. I reviewed progress of different works being carried out here through drone footage."

Modi referred to the devastation caused by severe flooding in 2013. "After 2013 destruction, people used to think if Kedarnath could be redeveloped. But a voice within me always told me that Kedarnath will be redeveloped again," Modi said.

Modi highlighted the legacy of Adi Shankaracharya in spreading importance of spirituality. "There was a time when spirituality and religion were believed to be associated only with stereotypes. But, Indian philosophy talks about human welfare, sees life in a holistic manner. Adi Shankaracharya worked to make society aware about this truth," Modi said.

Referring to other major projects at religious sites, Modi said, "A grand Ram Temple is being constructed in Ayodhya. Recently, Deepotsav was celebrated there. Work on Kashi Vishwanath corridor project in Varanasi is also progressing rapidly... Now, the country aims high and also sets a time limit to achieve these aims."

Modi declared Uttarakhand would receive more tourists in the next decade than it did in the last 100 years on account of new infrastructure to boost connectivity. "A number of infrastructure works are planned for Uttarakhand including road connectivity to Char Dhams and rope way near Hemkund Sahib to facilitate devotees. This decade belongs to Uttarakhand," the prime minister said.
