Ishaan Tharoor, son of Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor, has been named the recipient of the 2021 Arthur Ross Media Award in the Commentator category by The American Academy of Diplomacy. Ishaan will be presented with the award on November 9.

The Arthur Ross Media Awards “seek to recognize individuals or groups of individuals (e.g., a news bureau) whose reporting and analysis in diplomacy and foreign affairs is making a singular contribution to public understanding of the critical role played by diplomacy in the furtherance of America’s foreign policy interests,” The Washington Post reports.

A proud father, Shashi Tharoor wrote on Facebook, “So proud of my son, Ishaan Tharoor, for this well-deserved recognition. His commentaries, which I often share, are smart, perceptive and insightful, and offer a highly original take on world affairs four days a week.” Ishaan Tharoor holds a degree in history and ethnicity, race and migration from Yale University. His twin brother Kanishk is a writer, known for his short story collection, Swimmer Among The Stars.

Ishaan, who joined The Washington Post in 2014, previously served as a senior editor at Time, first in Hong Kong, later in New York.
