The Uttar Pradesh government, which reached the four-year mark of its tenure today, made claims about its achievements, even as the opposition dismissed them.
Before the official launch of the government’s report card, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “With the active and sensitive guidance of the respected Prime Minister Uttar Pradesh is scripting a new script of prosperity”.
He listed the state’s achievements, including four new expressways for enhanced connectivity, 17 airports at the districts, more than a dozen medical colleges, 75 per cent reduction in cases of encephalitis (a disease that is most prominent around the chief minister’s home district of Gorakhpur), beneficial steps for farmers that include reduction in mandi tax and taking development to the most marginalised.

“We have brought reform, perform and transform,” said the CM.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi tweeted that the government must add to its claims, the disclaimer, “All persons and events of this publicity are imaginary and have no correlation with real life”.
Adityanath has become the first chief minister from the party to complete a four-year tenure. Between 1997 and 2002, BJP had three chief ministers.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “The government has failed on every front. All sections of society are suffering. Even within the BJP working committee meeting, party members complain that nothing moves in thanas or tehsils without money. Farmers are protesting. The youth are pained by unemployment. Criminals are without fear… the darkness of these four years is not something that we have ever seen”.
BSP chief Mayawati tweeted, “The UP government on completing four years has splurged enormously on big advertisements and press conferences. There is very little truth in the achievements that the government is claiming. It would have been better if these government claims had given the state’s poor some benefit”.
