Mamata, PM Modi condole seven deaths in railway building fire in Kolkata

Seven people, including rescue personnel, were killed after a fire broke out at a railway building in Kolkata. The fire broke out in the 13th floor of Koilaghat building on Strand Road in late evening. West Bengal Mamata Banerjee reached the spot at night, announcing Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased. "We lost seven people. Four of them were firefighters who lost their lives inside a lift which they used to reach upstairs quickly. The lift got electrocuted. This is very unfortunate," Banerjee said, reported publications. 

PM Modi condoled the deaths. "Saddened by the loss of lives due to the fire tragedy in Kolkata. In this hour of sadness, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest," he wrote on Twitter.

Out of the seven deceased, four were firefighters, one assistant sub-inspector posted at the Hare Street police station and one RPF personnel. The four firefighters who died were identified as Girish Dey, Gourav Bej, Aniruddha Jana and Biman Purkayat.
