Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the chaos in the United States, with pro-Trump protesters taking over the national Capitol, and called for democratic process to be allowed. "Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests," he tweeted.

Thousands of angry supporters of Trump had stormed the US Capitol and clashed with police, resulting in casualty and multiple injuries and interrupting a constitutional process to affirm Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election. Trump had constantly alleged that the election was being stolen from him and that voter fraud was the reason.

Numerous other world leaders, including PM Boris Johnson from UK and leaders from Europe, condemned the incident.
