Air traffic to Kashmir restored after 4-day halt due to snowfall

Air traffic between Kashmir and the rest of the country was restored on Thursday after remaining suspended for four days due to snowfall in the valley, officials said.

"The first flight has landed at Srinagar Airport this morning. The flight is scheduled to leave for Delhi soon," an official of the Airport Authority of India said.

The Srinagar Airport Twitter handle informed passengers to arrive early keeping “extra time than normal as you may face traffic jam or narrow roads on your way due pile up of snow”. The Srinagar Airport tweeted that stranded passengers should contact their respective airlines for updates.

The air traffic between Srinagar airport, the only civilian airport in Kashmir, and rest of the country was suspended on Sunday due to snowfall, which continued till Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a Srinagar airport official had said 28 arriving and 28 outgoing flights were cancelled.

The Airports Authority of India had informed extensive snow had accumulated on the airport's apron.

The heavy snow had also hit traffic movement on the vital Jammu-Srinagar highway.
