The national president of BJP Kisan Morcha and MP Rajkumar Chahar on Tuesday demanded that the state government should immediately help the farmers in Maharashtra who have been devastated by the heavy rains, without waiting for formalities like panchnama.

Addressing a media briefing, Chahar said in the last few days, heavy rains have caused immense damage to agriculture in Maharashtra. But the state government has not yet declared any aid to the farmers. "There is no need for the state government to wait for panchnama to declare compensation to the farmers. The government should immediately declare compensation after receiving the report of the losses from the district and taluk level government agencies.”

However, no action has been taken by the state government to help the farmers, he said, and pointed out that before coming to power, the parties in the alliance government had raised demands like Rs 25,000 per hectare for arid farming for farmers affected by heavy rains, Rs 50,000 per hectare for horticultural land and Rs 1 lakh per hectare for orchards. “Such compensation was demanded by these political parties before coming to power. Now that they are in power, these parties have forgotten their own demands. A BJP government would have declared immediate compensation to the farmers. But the state government has not submitted a proposal to the Center for compensation to the farmers," Chahar said.

Criticising the Congress, he said that till today, the Congress did nothing for the farmers when it was in power. The Narendra Modi-led government has taken a number of decisions in the last six years to double the income of farmers, he claimed and added that the three new laws designed for farmers have revolutionised and transformed the lives of farmers in the country. “The results of this law will be seen in a few days. This law is being opposed by the Congress only for political reasons.”

"The Congress has opposed the laws out of fear that the peasantry will not stand by it if they (farmers) benefit them. For this, misconceptions are being spread among the farmers about new laws," said Chahar.

The BJP Kisan Morcha has launched a nationwide public relations campaign to curb the false propaganda against the law, disclosed Chahar. The BJP Lok Sabha MP further informed about the decisions taken by the Modi government for the transportation of agricultural commodities like Kisan Railway and implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.
